Another question to ask is if you will use it and increase your profits right away. Estimate how much time it's going to take to implement this tool or resource, and if it's going to be worth the expense. If you're prone to attraction to shiny things, then you have to instill more discipline in yourself. No matter what type of business you're in, knowing certain people could help you a great deal. There are various ways to get to know such people, so be creative about it. Cast your net far and wide and include offline business events, as well. Depending on who that person is, you may not be able to succeed if the person is famous in business or society. Don't expect to become this person's new best friend overnight; you have to build up a relationship with them gradually, even if it's on a forum or social network. The thing about this approach is you may only need one person to open things up for you.

If you have people in your circle, or close enough to it, who are basically on your side, then don't forget them. This is related to the familiar concept of networking, which has many applications. Many of us know more people than we realize, and they often encompass a large number of areas. You don't have to actively seek new customers or partners all the time, but always be open to potential opportunities in this area. All you want to do is stay connected with those whom you know.
