How To Avoid The "Big Fizzle" After Going Viral



It's sort of an internet marketing home run to create something that just takes-off and becomes wildly viral. Not all marketers try to do this, but naturally it's highly desirable to be the source of something that millions of people like, and pass along to their friends, reTweet, etc. Practically all marketers associate viral traffic with huge quantities of, usually, short lived traffic. But creating this effect is probably impossible to do with 100% reliability. Most people generally think of it as making some kind of content that just blows people away - gets their attention - and then you put it out there as much as you can. Once in a while some obscure product, or service, appears from nowhere and goes viral. Well, ok... you may be wondering how you can do that, too? Great - so let's discuss some methods you can put to use that could help your content become a viral traffic generator.

It's very powerful to make someone react to your content as soon as they read or see it.

Obviously you want them to really feel their emotions very suddenly. Forget the usual, bland, and boring reactions people have to the everyday news. You want them to have a reaction, and even a negative reaction like anger is better than a passing nod. The quality and strength of their reactions can compel them to link to you, or pass your content along to wherever.

Ensure that your work is easy to share offline too. Don't limit your marketing efforts to the internet because that is where you are making your sales and promoting your work. When it is offline, content can still become viral and contagious. Ensure that people are able to print, burn copies and share your work with others that don't have regular access to the internet. This could get you plenty of new customers with this strategy.

Make product that you can give away for free and let people share it with others. creating a free newsletter with a "send this to your friends" link is a smart way to interest people that haven't subscribed to your work. Put your best content on the front page of your blog for nothing. Give coupons away that offer a hour of your shop's services or free products. By allowing people to print two or more coupons that they can send to their friends, will get more attention and new customers.

It's not exactly known what will create viral content. The reason is because it's impossible to tell what will capture people's attention. But you do have control over making your content worthy of notice and attention. But if you're not motivated, or you do just enough to get by, and only hope for the best - well... good luck, then! So just remember that it's really not much to do in order to give your content a fighting chance at going viral. Never know - your results could be virally amazing.
