Email Marketing Still The Strongest Form Of Marketing
Despite various tools being available when it comes to marketing, it seems that the most successful of all is still email marketing. Email marketing essentially involves sending existing and potential customers messages via email in order to attract new customers. Most of the time, email marketing involves sending newsletters or promotional messages and offers. It is for this reason that businesses always try to gather new email addresses. For a company to have a successful email marketing campaign, however, they must be aware of certain dos and don'ts. If done properly, you may see a huge surge in the number of customers that shop with you. Do it wrong, however, and you will soon lose whatever customer database you do have.
Firstly, you have to make sure none of your messages get marked as spam. Firstly, you must make sure the email server doesn't mark your message as spam. This can be avoided by choosing your words carefully. Some words that are big no-nos include "rich", "money", "savings" and "fantastic". You should also avoid using exclamation points, characters such as the dollar or pound signs and writing in capital. Once you have managed to at least ensure your message will appear in someone's inbox, you have to make sure they read it and don't start marking you as spam. The best way to achieve this is by having fantastic content. What also works is to make the message personal, for instance by starting with the recipient's name. You may not have your customer's name, in which case you should still start with a friendly greeting before launching into your sales pitch.
But why does email marketing work? It seems that the personal touch is what makes it attractive. Most people are sick of the advertisements they see online, on their television, newspapers and radio. Instead, they want to be seen as individuals, rather than profit making statistics. Telemarketing is one way to get around this, but people have a tendency to put down the phone as soon as they notice it is a telemarketer. By sending information through email, you make sure that people can read the information in their own time and digest it calmly. Although writing leaflets and letters could work as well, most people throw these in the rubbish bin as soon as they have received them. Furthermore, they find using paper a waste of trees and they worry about the environment as well. Through email marketing, however, people don't have to worry about their carbon footprint, their safety or the fact that they are forced to read something when they didn't want to yet.
